The RW silicium GmbH is a 100% daughter company of Graphit Kropfmühl AG. They are specialists in the finishing of natural graphite and the production of silicon metal. RW silicium GmbH with its headquarters in Pocking, Germany is the only German manufacturer of high quality silicon. The silicon metal manufactured is supplied to the chemical (production of silicones) and the aluminum casting industry (production of automotive parts). Each year approx. 30.000 tons of silicon metal is produced. Currently RW silicium GmbH employs about 130 employees. In 2006 the company had a turnover of 48.5 million Euros. In the last couple of years RW silicium has continuously implemented several improvement measures.

In 2007, RW silicium GmbH began a project to upgrade an existing filter system. Four existing ovens were to be integrated into the new filter system in order to avoid production down time.

SGS was contracted for the complete delivery (except technical equipment), installation and cladding of parts for the upgrade of the filter system. To be precise, SGS was responsible for the installation of piping, sheet metal components, screws and steel construction as well as bottom caps and filter housing etc. After the installation of the filter system and piping, the four ovens were integrated into the system with only four days of down time. The project in figures: SGS delivered a total of 204 tons of steel construction, 60 tons of dust bunker, 84 tons of piping and conduit. Beside the allready mentioned delivered and installed parts, the contract also consisted of installing 30 tons of supplied technical equipment such as ventilators and flow control valves.

When it comes to commissioning, RW silicium GmbH puts great value in getting a planning and consulting partner who can deliver everything from one hand. After receiving the product specifications documentation, the complete project was carried out by SGS. RW silicium GmbH was able to profit from the vast know-how in dust removal technology, which SGS possesses.
