More than any other place in Africa, the South-African city of Piet Retief stands for timber production and refinement. Just the right place for PG Bison, one of the continent's largest chipboard producers with a long history. Founded in 1897, the company has made wood processing its successful business to this day, it continues to grow extensively. A SGS Industrial Services assembly team was commisioned to carry out the mechanical and electrical assembly of an entire chipboard plant. Between September 12, 2016 and February 28, 2017, the SGS team worked on the IMAL wood shavings treatment system, the Vynke power system, a forming station, the press, the cooling and stacking systems, the sanding line, the press steam scrubber and the extraction systems for the entire chipboard production facility. "This project's biggest challenge was the press line's assembly area of very limited space," SGS Industrial Services' Managing Director Christian Gittmaier tells us. "Furthermore, the thermal oil line had to be laid across an existing, fully operating production line and the power system's media supply. "We have cooperated with local assembly specialists (into the SGS team) and thus created an effective team that mastered all these challenges with ease." A team that not only caught attention through its excellent work, but also their unique construction site attire. Both, SGS and PG Bison had supplied distinct jackets for the whole assembly crew. To the client's full satisfaction, all tasks were completed on schedule and in top quality.
