SGS with full order books despite the tense international market situation

SGS Industrial Services GmbH reacted quickly to the Corona crisis and strongly relocated industrial assembly to Europe, while business in the USA was cut back significantly. As a result, SGS has full order books despite the tense international situation.

Four new gas power plants are currently being built in Europe: in Wolfsburg, Herne and Dresden in Germany and another in Keadby / England. The order volume for each of these new major orders is over 10 million euros. Two other major projects are being built for the steel and cement industries in Belgium and in Germany. "We are on record course in Europe, our order books are well filled until May 2021," emphasizes owner Werner Griesmaier.

Excellent order situation in Europe compensates decreases in US business

A series of major orders in Europe brought SGS a record level of order backlog despite the generally tense economic situation in the industry. Thus, can compensate for the poorly performing business in the USA due to the Corona crisis. As a result of the developments of the past months, SGS reacted quickly and focused on new orders in Europe. All employees are fully engaged, short-time work and home office were only briefly a topic. Business in North America was shut down, but even there all existing orders were completed in compliance with health regulations.

Major orders in Germany, Belgium and England

In the difficult last months, the regular customers of SGS have remained loyal. Currently, four new gas power plants are being built in Germany and England with a total order volume of more than 40 million euros. Three gas power plants are being assembled by order of Siemens and one for Wärtsilä. In the Siemens project in Keadby / England, the world's most powerful turbine generation is being mechanically assembled. “For the first time in the history of the company, SGS is building four gas power plants in parallel,” says Werner Griesmaier.

Two other major orders include a steel mill in Belgium and a cement plant in Germany. In the course of the order for the steel mill in Belgium, up to 180 SGS employees are on duty for around 10 months at peak times. The project encompasses the mechanical installation and pipeline assembly of a strip processing line for stainless steel. The realization of a new kiln line in a German cement plant will start at the end of 2020.
