The individual construction areas
The mechanical construction work comprises 1000 tonnes of terminal equipment consisting of 250 tonnes of steel construction and 750 tonnes of mechanical equipment, such as decoilers, two vertical belt accumulators, recoilers, etc.. The process equipment comprises 500 tonnes of steel construction and 500 tonnes of mechanical equipment (pre-treatment tanks and horizontal rinses, chrome-plating tanks, extraction systems, media tank, etc.).
High precision measuring
Precise measuring technology is necessary for every successful construction site project and this project was no exception. Our experienced SGS team of qualified measurement technicians used a Leica Lasertracker to align the mechanical equipment. With this perfect package of services, our project partner profited from the highest measurement precision and from project-specific, individual documentation. Find out more about our industrial measuring here.
Smooth project flow
Our SGS team's organized working manner enabled the project to proceed safely and smoothly. Assembly started at the beginning of April 2021 and, as everything went to plan, the work was completed by the end of November 2021. Commissioning of the new plant is planned for the beginning of 2022.
About our end customer, Thyssenkrupp Rasselstein
In Andernach, at the world's largest production site for packaging steel, Thyssenkrupp Rasselstein produces tin-plated or special chrome-plated sheeting in thicknesses of 0.1 mm to 0.499 mm, with and without organic coating. The annual packaging steel output is 1.5 million tonnes whereby 90 % of the material produced is used in the packaging sector, e.g. for foodstuffs, beverages or aerosols.
Chrome-plating plant - Unique in the world in terms of process technology
The new chrome-plating plant is unique in the world in terms of process technology. The TCCT (Trivalent Chromium Coating Technology) process, used for the chrome-plating of steel strapping, uses trivalent chromium for surface treatment thereby meeting the Reach requirements. The technology for this product - TCCT® (Trivalent Chromium Coating Technology) - is based on a Tata Steel Ijmuiden B.V. patent, from which Rasselstein has acquired a licence.
