SuedOstLink: A Key Project for the Energy Transition
The SuedOstLink is one of Germany’s most critical power transmission routes. This approximately 540-kilometer high-voltage direct current (HVDC) line transports renewable energy from the north to the south of the country, ensuring a stable and sustainable power supply. Converter stations in the north convert alternating current (AC) into direct current (DC) for efficient, low-loss transmission over long distances. In the south, converter stations reconvert DC back into AC for integration into the conventional power grid. The Wolmirstedt facility is an essential part of this project and contributes to the successful integration of renewable energy into the grid.
