Building on the successful installation of the HVDC converter station in Wolmirstedt, SGS Industrial Services is applying its expertise to another key project: the electrical installation of the Isar HVDC converter station. Siemens Energy has once again placed its trust in the competence and reliability of our SGS team, placing a follow-up order that impressively underscores our performance and successful cooperation. The installation of an HVDC system is one of the most challenging projects in the field of energy infrastructure. SGS Industrial Services is meeting this challenge head on with cutting-edge technology, high precision, and a well-coordinated team.

SuedOstLink: A Key Project for the Energy Transition

The Isar HVDC converter station is part of the SuedOstLink project – a 540-kilometer-long power connection stretching from Wolmirstedt near Magdeburg to Isar near Landshut. It transports renewable energy from the windy north to southern Germany, where electricity demand is particularly high.

To ensure that this energy can be transported over long distances with minimal loss, it is converted into direct current at the converter stations. At the end of the line, the electricity is converted back into alternating current and fed into the existing grid. This conversion enables safe and efficient transmission over hundreds of kilometers via underground cables.

SuedOstLink is creating one of Germany's most important electricity highways. The project ensures that renewable energy reliably reaches where it is needed.

Through our work on SuedOstLink, we are making a direct contribution to ensuring the long-term viability of Germany's electricity supply in a sustainable and reliable way, working closely with our customer.
